What to Expect

Drug Court

Drug Court is a specialized court program designed to help individuals with substance use disorders who have been charged with drug-related or other eligible offenses. Instead of traditional prosecution and sentencing, Drug Court focuses on rehabilitation and recovery to reduce recidivism and improve public safety.

How It Works:

  1. Eligibility & Referral – Individuals charged with drug-related offenses or crimes linked to substance use may be referred to Drug Court. Eligibility typically depends on the nature of the offense, prior criminal history, and willingness to participate.
  2. Assessment & Treatment Plan – Participants undergo a substance use assessment, and a personalized treatment plan is developed. This may include detox, therapy, medication-assisted treatment, and other recovery services.
  3. Judicial Oversight & Accountability – Participants must appear regularly before the Drug Court judge to review progress. The court monitors compliance with treatment, drug testing, and other program requirements.
  4. Supervision & Support – A team, including probation officers, counselors, and court staff, provides supervision, drug testing, and support services to help participants stay on track.
  5. Completion & Graduation – Successful participants who complete the program can have charges reduced or dismissed. Those who fail to comply may face sanctions, including jail time or prison.
